A good view of the city and its buildings can be had from the viewing platform of the more than 650 foot high television tower. The TV tower can be found on the Eixo Monumental, a huge, wide boulevard on which most of the monuments are found. The Parliament, the Congresso Nacional, is located on the southern end of the Eixo Monumental. On the other side on the Praça dos Três Poderes, there is the president’s palace, the Supreme Court and the newest building, a pantheon which serves as a reminder of Tancredo Neves (1910–1985) – a memorial to democracy. On the left side of the square is the office of the president, the Palácio do Planalto.

Walking from this point, heading towards the TV tower, you will go past the Cathedral Metropolitana Nossa Senhora Aparecida, one of the most famous Niemeyer buildings. Pirenópolis is just the opposite of Brasilia. It is small, picturesque on the shores of the Rio Almas and has many old buildings. The old town district is much worth seeing with its two Baroque churches. In this area, the evenings come to life and are exciting.
