Florianópolis, in the southern state of Santa Catarina, is spread across the mainland and the island of Santa Catarina, where the tourist and cultural center of the city is located. Of course from Florianópolis you can also take a couple of trips inland. A big tourist attraction is the border region of Paraguay and Argentina where you can find the waterfalls Foz do Iguaçu. The Indian – Portuguese name means „big water’ and in fact the water masses are around 262 feet high and thunder down almost 2 miles. It is very much worth seeing, but it is also a bit away from Florianópolis. However, such a car drive through the Brazilian countryside is at any rate an adventure.
