Car Rental in Chile: Enjoy the freedom of South America's West Coast

Welcome to Chile, the end of the world. The country along the 40th line of Latitude got its name from the Aymaras, the indigenous population.

2580 miles lie between Arica, a town far up north, and Cape Horn on the southern tip.

Chile is divided into several regions: the Great North (Norte Grande), the Little North (Norte Chico), Central Chile with the Pacific islands, Little South (Sur Chico) and Chiloe, and the Great South (Sur Grande) with Patagonia.

Norte Grande, Great South, covers more than 730 miles. The driest place on earth, the Atacama desert, is right in the center of Norte Grande. Norte Chico is south of Copiago, and has semi-dry climate, contrary to its great neighbor, where rain is so rare that it is cause for celebration.

Book a rental car from CarDelMar in Chile today and drive along the endless Chilean coast.

Be captivated by central Chilean climate

Central Chile and the Pacific islands cover the area from Aconcagua to Concepcion, where climate is Mediterranean. More than half of Chileans live in the metropolitan area in the northern part of central Chile. Santiago, the capital, has a population of 5.2m. It is set in a valley between the Andes and the coastal Cordilleras, which sometimes causes mist to gather above the city. However, on clear days the setting between snow-covered mountains is spectacular. The baroque area around Santa Lucia, a 230 ft hill, is particularly charming and offers a great view over the city. The palm tree-lined staircases make the hike a pleasant one.

The reward for your efforts is a Lakeland laid out before marvelous volcanoes that have been labeled the Chilean Switzerland. Winter tends to be rainy in this area, summer is warm and humid.

If traveling in the summer, be sure to book a rental car with air conditioning!

Incredible Chilean Islands: Chiloe

Chiloe is an archipelago consisting of Isla Grande de Chiloe and smaller islands further east. The climate is comparable to Atlantic climate and Chiloe roughly resembles Ireland in color and landscape.

The Great South and the lands further south form Patagonia, the southern tip Cape Horn, Cabo De Hornos in Portuguese.

You can best discover this diverse country by rental car, allowing you to stop along the way and take in the breathtaking scenery.

Explore the exciting surrounding environment in your rental car!

The Atacama Desert, Easter Island, the dense forests and clear lakes of the Little South make up the most incomparable landscape one could wish to come across. Add Patagonia, Tierra Fuego, and Cape Horn and you have a traveler’s dream. Working your way up the Andes in northern Chile to the Paso Sico at 13,120 ft you drive past the most surreal-looking turquoise lagunas.

Botanists will be fascinated with Little South, home of the Araukary trees that grow to be up to 200 ft tall. The Natives use the seed to make Chicha, a refreshing local drink. A major chunk of the local income is provided by sheep. More than ten million of them are gathered in the vast Estanicias in southern Chile where they are given a new hair cut.

If you have made it all the way to the south you should not miss the Torres del Paine National Park, a natural pearl with 9850 ft high peaks in the background. The park stretches out over almost 1000 miles, making a rental car an absolute necessity if you want to discover it in all its glory. The park is populated by pumas and more than 100 different kinds of birds, among them parrots, flamingos, and condors.

Chile is sober and colorful, quiet and buzzing, green and sandy, ocean and mountains. It is too many things to list and that is just what its magic is all about: the enormous diversity and remarkable beauty wherever you turn. Book your rental car today and don't miss out on a trip of a lifetime!
