In Calenzana in the northeast of the island begins the best-known and most challenging walking trail in all of France: the Grande Randonnée 20, which translates into Great Trail 20 and gets shortened to GR20. The trail first takes you through lower lands through typically Mediterranean scrubland, but the further you ascent the denser the vegetation and after a while you will be hiking through beech and pine tree forests, crisscrossed by clear streams and gorges.
