Cheap car rental Frankfurt

Book a rental car in Europe's economic heart: Frankfurt

When you fly to Germany you are most likely to land in either Dusseldorf or Frankfurt. Neither is the biggest city in Germany, and if you ask Germans which the top three cities are, neither will be listed. Yet both are quite interesting, if for different reasons, and since they are almost inevitable it doesn’t even require extra effort to snoop around a little.

So secure your rental car in Frankfurt today to enjoy not only the city, but its surrounding areas!

Though Frankfurt has a population of only 670,000 it is the steering wheel of the German economy. The stock exchange market is housed in the financial district, as is the European Central Bank, the most powerful European monetary institution. The financial district is the only in Germany to feature a significant number of skyscrapers, in fact it is the European number two after Paris.

Drive your rental car out of downtown Frankfurt and visit the beautiful sites

Outside this district the city is surprisingly green with a large urban forest in the south, a palm tree garden, and a zoo right in the center.

You will notice that the main sights are all within walkable distance. The name of the city hall hints at the origin of the city: Roemer translates into Romans who established a settlement in the 1st century B.C. The actual building dates from somewhere around the 14th century and is, amongst others, used as the town registry office. Right opposite you will find St. Bartholomew’s Cathedral, though the locals simply call it Dom. This building has evolved for almost 1400 years, the first part being build around 680 A.D. During much of this time it was closely linked to the history of Germany, as during the Middle Ages this is where kings were elected and later Emperors were crowned. The counterpart to this imperial history of the Holy Roman Empire of German Nation is St. Paul’s Church. As far as political symbolism goes this one stands for democracy and unity, as it was the meeting place of the first German parliament during the 1848 revolution, and those early efforts to create a democratic constitution are still called Paulskirchenparlament, St. Paul’s Parliament.

If there is still any doubt left about the contributions of Frankfurt to German history and culture, visit the Goethe House and Museum on Großer Hirschgraben street. The brilliant poet was born here in 1749 as the mayor’s grandson. The museum tells the story of this multitalented genius who gave us the incredible stories of Faust Part One and Two, the Roman Elegies, and the intermaxillary bone, which he discovered in 1784.

Frankfurt has taken it’s role as a city of culture quite seriously and consequentially built a number of excellent museums, which can be found on the Museumsufer, a section of the banks of the Main River. The annual Museum Night in April is one of the most successful cultural events in Germany, as is the Museumsufer Festival in August. With a rental car in Frankfurt you will be able to hit all of the major sites.

The oldest district of Frankfurt is Höchst west of the city center. The medieval streets are charming and you should definitely see the castle, the Maintor, which is the old city fortification, and the Zollturm. If your feet need a break after all the walking around, take a ride on the historic Ebbelwei Express (literally apple wine express) and then find a traditional restaurant where you can indulge in the local, hearty fare. Book your rental car in Frankfurt today and don't miss out on one of Europes most economically important cities.
