Another great tip is a visit to the open-air museum in the “Sam Houston Park” and the excellent old town district of the city. The “Sam Houston Park” was setup in 1900 and also the eight oldest buildings of the city are found here which were built between 1823 and 1905. Around 20 miles east of the city center you will find the „San Jacinto Battle Monument“. This memorial is a reminder of the battle that took place on April 4, 1836. The Texans were led by Sam Houston and fought for their independence from Mexico. The monument made of limestone is 561 feet high and the viewing platform can be reached with an elevator. The view is one-of-a-kind and even the skyline of Houston can be seen perfectly.
Those that would rather spend their time actively involved in sports will be able to do so. Houston has everything from basketball to tennis and even golf. The city offers a wide range of sports. Near the city there are also great golf courses and even a racetrack, all of which are easily reached with the rental car.
