The Kingdom of Thailand

The Kingdom of Thailand is a highlight for every visitor. The country has an area about the same size as France or slightly bigger than California and encircles much of the Gulf of Thailand. It takes some time to explore all of the country, and every area has a distinct character. The population of 60m is largely concentrated in the capital Bangkok with its 10m population.
Thailand borders Laos, Cambodia, and Malaysia, the Indian Ocean and the South China Sea.

Due to the vastness of the country it is best explored by rental car.
The northern part of Thailand is dominated by a mountain range, providing the highest peak of  8400 ft, called Doi Inthanon. This area is covered in dense rain forest, parts of it easily accessible by rental car. It has some of the most stunning scenery in South East Asia.

The north-eastern Isan, a high plateau, is mainly used for rice growing.

Driving further east in your rental car you get to the shores of the Gulf of Thailand. This area is particularly fertile and therefore used for agricultural production. The coastal area has some of the best beaches: white sand and crystal clear, turquoise water.

The famous beaches of Thailand

Take a rest on one of the heavenly beaches, surrounded by the sea resorts Pattaya, Rayong, and the Koh Samet islands, one of the most popular recreation areas in the world. Phuket is the most famous one, a worldwide renown tourist destination.

Moving south you will discover the diverse regions of Thailand. You will cross the spectacular coastal regions, beautiful rain forests, vast fields and mountainous areas.

Do not bother packing woollen jumpers and winter coats, temperatures never drop under 64°F, not even during the rainy season. April is the hottest month, temperatures rise well above 86°F in the shade. So when booking your rental car be sure it has air conditioning.

Take a trip to the Thailand's buzzing cities in your rental car

As enjoyable as the Thai countryside is, do not forget to check out the vibrant cities. There is Bangkok, of course, the capital, but also Chiang Mai, Samut Prakan, Khon Kaen, Chonburi and many more towns worth a visit.
The cities closely link old Siamese traditions with Thai modern culture. The buzzing of the cities is a welcome contrast to the quiet and solitude of the country.

Bangkok is especially overwhelming. More than 400 Buddhist temples, the so-called Wats, and other historical buildings like the Great Palace, and the Wat Pho, mix with huge modern buildings and shopping avenues.
Shopping is an easy task, not just in Bangkok. Shops, malls, and markets are to be found everywhere in the cities.

Just as easy to find is good food. Thai cuisine is a color- and tasteful fusion of Asian influences and immensely popular among tourists as much as locals.

Take a trip through one of the most fascinating countries in the world in a rental car and discover the numerous wonders that Thailand holds.
