Tips and Hints
The French love roundabouts, Italians like to use their horn and the Spanish can't find their indicator. Regardless of where you are while driving your hired car from CarDelMar, you will find that every country has its own peculiarities.
The following tips are a survival guide for driving abroad to ensure that you with your CarDelMar rental car enjoy a smooth and safe journey.
When in Rome...
Overtaking, jostling, honking the horn. Keep calm and don't get stressed by the way the locals drive. Follow the local traffic regulations and do not exceed the speed limit. It is a lot easier to have your licence confiscated abroad than you might think.
Know your way around
You know your home town like the back of your hand, but abroad finding you way can be somewhat more complicated. If you do not know the road, adjust your speed accordingly, drive carefully and take your time. You are, after all, on holiday.
Parking
Enough driving, now it's time to take a walk around! Make sure you park the car in a designated parking zone. In big cities, multi-storey car parks or guarded car parks are your best bet. To avoid unpleasant surprises, don't forget to buy a car park ticket or to put money in the parking metre.
Leaving the Car
Before you leave your vehicle, always double check that it really is locked, so that someone else cannot use the vehicle that you rented. Try remembering street names or a distinctive landmark in the area where you have parked.
Valuables
Do not, under any circumstances, leave valuables in the car. Don't invite theft. If you do have to leave something in the car, make sure it is safely hidden in the boot. Your expensive watch should be on your wrist and not in the glove compartment!
In the case of an accident
The lamppost was obviously not there the least time you looked, or did you get a little close to the attractive lady in the convertible? As long as everyone is safe and well afterwards, that's the main thing - since you will have the benefit of the CarDelMar all-inclusive package which guarantees full insurance cover.
Here are a few first-aid provisions that you should keep in mind:
Secure accident scene
First of all stay calm and mark the scene with a warning triangle. If necessary, administer first-aid. If anyone is injured, contact the police. When another vehicle or person is involved in the accident, call the police and make sure that they compile an accident report.
Witnesses
Check if anyone witnessed the incident; take down their names and addresses. Always make sure that you write down the details (registration number, name, address and insurance company, as well as the location, date and time) of any other drivers involved.
Notification of Claim
Report the damage immediately to your local branch of the rental company. When returning your hired car, make sure the rental company compiles a signed damage report. This should then be submitted to CarDelMar on your return home. Other important information on what to do can be found on the voucher that you received from CarDelMar when you made your booking.
Enjoying the freedom of a hired car on holiday
Orchards stretching into the distance, lonely beaches and coves or romantic scenery passing by - and you decide when and where you stop and enjoy it all.
Take the following extras with you and your hired car will be the perfect travelling companion.
Where?
Maps and travel guides will keep you on the right track.
You can't go wrong
If you get lost, it doesn't matter. That is sometimes the best way to make a surprising discovery.
Protection against the sun
Don't forget to bring your sunglasses and have your sun cream close at hand.
Holiday music
Does your hired car have a CD-player? Make sure you take your favourite CDs to accompany you.
Capture the scenery
Make sure that you always have your camera and an extra film close at hand. The best photo opportunities tend to occur when you least expect them.
Swimwear is essential, for when you unexpectedly find the perfect beach along your route.
CarDelMar, your holiday car hire company, wishes you a safe and smooth journey.
